If you're sure! Here I got a place we can meet near where I live.
[it isn't an address, but instead carefully typed out instructions on how to get to a little park nearby from the train station, On the one hand there's no street names, but on the other it uses landmarks instead]
[and, when she arrives the following morning, it might be a little surprising to find that he's already there. But he isn't really the type to sleep late, at least not when he has awesome TCG plans with Venn]
[Somehow, she isn't at all surprised to find that he's already there. Vennessa arrives early herself, but she gets there to discover that Itto's eagerness had him beating her to the punch regardless. She has to laugh as she walks up to him and closes the last of the distance between them, clapping her hand against his arm like someone greeting an old friend.]
Itto! You didn't wait here all night just to get here first, did you?
[Does she think that might be something he would do? Maybe.]
[if he didn't have an actual apartment to sleep in? He would have 100% just slept there so that he could be there on time in the morning. He gives Venn a huge grin as she approaches]
Haha, no way! I got up early so I wouldn't be late!
I'm glad you were that eager to meet up with me. [Vennessa giggles, giving his arm a brief squeeze before she lets her hand drop. Though the game had been a good excuse, she had really just been looking forward to seeing the oni again. He's interesting and entirely fun in a way she wouldn't have expected with what little she knows about his people.]
Shall we find somewhere to sit down? Maybe a bar won't mind us taking up a table.
Why wouldn't I be? It's fun hanging out with you! [his excitement to see a friend and spend time with them is 100% genuine. And Venn is pretty cool in his book! Y'know, aside from her being interested in one of his hobbies]
Hey, that's not a bad idea. I passed a few on the way here we could check out.
I like hanging out with you, too. [She tells him with another laugh, and she steps up beside him to loop her arm through his.] Lead the way, then.
[Itto would find her to be a very obliging person when it comes to finding somewhere to settle in, though if he wants her to make the choice she will. Once they find somewhere and get settled, she looks over at him with a fondly amused smile.]
I haven't been able to get this game out of my mind since the last time I saw you. I really had fun with it.
[gosh having another friend actually interested in card games is great. There's Ayato, of course, but he's a busy guy - busier than Itto realized now that he actually knows what he does back home.
They settle into a small place, one of those bar/cafe places that seems pretty quiet during the day. He hasn't stopped grinning since they met up and somehow, it can get even wider]
I'm really glad! Not a lot of folks seem to be into them, which I guess I can kinda understand, but -
But they don't know what they're missing out on! New experiences are the best part of life.
[And Vennessa's life recently has been full of new experiences. Even meeting and befriending Itto himself, an oni, someone she would have never had the opportunity to meet before, has been an exciting thing.
She orders herself a drink before they really get into chatting.]
You don't happen to play any other card games, do you?
See, that's what I said! But I ain't gonna hassle anyone if they don't wanna learn, they're just missing out.
[Nippon has been a new experience for him too, both things he's never done and - well, he has a steady place to live, that's a big improvement over back home. Itto also orders a drink, something sweet because it's (kind of) too early for something alcoholic.
. . . yet]
I know a bunch of games, but I can't find the decks for 'em here. But there's other games created here, too! And ones from other worlds - there's a place I go for dinner sometimes and the guys in the back play a bunch of games, but uh, they're not tcgs, really.
[Vennessa might not be worldly but she's not ignorant. She knows what kinds of games people might play in the back room of a dining establishment and the smile she sends Itto's way as she says it is wry.]
Is this a dark side to Arataki Itto that I'm seeing?
[She's teasing him, leaning her forearm on the table as she does so.]
[Itto bursts into laughter; Vennessa is definitely not someone he'd accuse of being innocent, but the comment still amuses him way too much]
I told ya I was a troublemaker when we met!
[he waves a hand] Gambling's only fun if the folks doing it don't get all mad when they lose - which uh, is pretty rare. But it'd be a lie if I said I didn't give it a try once or twice.
You did tell me that! And I took you at your word. [Troublemaking oni! She has no idea of the stereotypes surrounding his people, at least, but she seems to find the whole thing incredibly entertaining.]
Your luck didn't hold up?
[Or... it did? Itto doesn't seem to have terribly good luck when it comes to playing games against other people. It wouldn't be so endearing if he wasn't such a good sport about it.]
I dunno if that counts as a dark side, technically, but it's close enough! [it really isn't but it kind of sounds cool, saying he (maybe) has a dark side.
(no, it really isn't cool)
Itto likes to think his luck isn't that bad, despite the amount of losses he has under his belt and how many more there are compared with his wins. It isn't important!]
Nah, nah, I stopped before I lost too much. It's a lot more fun challenging for something like snacks anyway.
[And they can eat the snacks at the end. High stakes can be fun, but when you're just trying to enjoy yourself then why not play for sweets instead of money? She props her chin on her hand and smiles indulgently, clearly finding the idea to be an appealing one.
In the end she thinks much like he does, at least when it comes to games - it doesn't really matter who wins as long as some fun is had.]
We should get some snacks when we're done here, and we can play a few games together. What do you think?
[winning and fun, to him, are about equal, but fun definitely edges out as being on top. If it wasn't, no one would accept his challenges, right? At least back home. He's really glad Venn understands that, too! It's so nice to talk about the things he likes with someone and not get the looks he usually gets.
Not that he cares about the looks, but it's still nice!]
[She smiles warmly over at him and impulsively reaches out to touch the back of his hand. It's a fleeting contact, just for a moment, before they're interrupted by someone coming over to ask what they'd like to order. Vennessa gives her choice, sits back to wait for Itto to make his, then once they're alone again she leans against the table a little.]
I had been wondering-- and I hope this isn't rude of me to ask... Would you tell me more about oni?
[he grins back, and even a little wider at the touch. Not a whole lot of people do that.
He gives his order to host as well, thanking them and watching them leave. He's about to say something about snacks - that he knows of a few good places, depending on the type of snacks - but Venn talks and the question catches him a little by surprise]
Eh? Rude? [he immediately shakes his head] It's not rude at all. You really wanna know more about oni? What do you wanna know about 'em?
[With his willingness to talk and the way he had grinned when she touched his hand, Vennessa is entirely emboldened to do it again. She places her hand over the back of his and smiles, her eyes bright with the prospect of being able to learn more about Itto's people.]
I'm not ashamed to say I'm not terribly worldly. I've never been to Inazuma, let alone met an oni from there before. And I like you, so I'd like to know about you. The things you find important.
